Morcheeba - Blood Like Lemonade

All is fair in love, war and, apparently, musical collaborations as we see the regrouping of the original members of noted late 90's U.K. trip-hop band Morcheeba -- Paul and Ross Godfrey and vocalist Skye Edwards -- for the trio's seventh album Blood Like Lemonade arriving stateside July 13 (PIAS America). After being dismissed by the Godfreys in 2003, Edwards released a pair of solo albums while the Godfreys hired -- and then sacked -- a variety of Edwards' replacements. But now all is water under the proverbial bridge as the distinctive Morcheeba sound -- loungy Brit electronica with Edwards' soulful vocal prowess -- remains happily intact on the new, intriguingly titled Blood Like Lemonade.

"This is the record we should have made after Big Calm," says Paul Godfrey, "but we had to travel treacherous terrains to get back to our natural habitat." That particular, newly friendly musical environ is represented by the first Blood Like Lemonade single, the gloriously downtempo "Even Though", a song that both reflects in rear view and moves forward the staple Morcheeba style. "It feels good to be back together," Edwards reflects. "Friends have been asking, “What does the new Morcheeba record sound like? My answer? 'It sounds like Morcheeba” Of course!'" Recommended.
