Junip - Fields

Junip - Fields - September 14 - Mute - Swedish neo-folkie solo artist Jose Gonzalez (2003's Veneer and 2007's In Our Nature) returns to his sporadic side project Junip for the trio's first album since 2005. Spare art-pop that backs Gonzalez' nylon-string guitar and smoky tenor with a tapestry of keyboard shadings and a nice kick of propulsive percussion, Fields doesn't dominate with big melodic statements. It persuades with subtle progressive touches that allow the trio to expand the folk/pop songs into more adventurous instrumental territory.
