Brass Bed - Melt White - Park the Van - Can music be both dreamy and starkly bracing? Lafayette, Louisiana's own winking psych-pop masters Brass Bed slyly say yes -- and then throw in a swirling collage of classic rock and pop references (Brian Wilson, Byrds, Big Star, Fleetwood Mac) for an album that mixes sweet tongue-in-cheek irreverence with a tart if respectful play on their blenderized pop-lifting.
