I Am Arrows - Sun Comes Up Again

Calling Andy Burrows a drummer is like calling Don Henley, Phil Collins or Dave Grohl drummers. Like his forebearers, banging the skins for a rock band -- in this case critically-maligned British alt-rockers Razorlight -- was just the beginning for the multi-talented instrumentalist, singer and songwriter. Burrows' second album Sun Comes Up Again, arriving August 16 in the U.K. via Mercury, is an impressive one man show of elegant and decidedly nostalgic pop and rock hitmaking machinery and a 179 degree turn from his former band's arena-sized bombast. Burrows, recording under the moniker I Am Arrows, dips more into the 70's retro pool of McCartney, 10 CC, Jeff Lynne, Todd Rundgren and Harry Nillsson with shiny, XL-sized melodies, a touch of SoCal strummy powerpop and a frisky bounce in the rhythmic step.

Working with producer Eliot James (Noah and The Whale), Burrows tackles all of the instrumentation, writing and vocals on his sunny Sun with a backing band assembled for live play. Assembled with the meticulous care of an artisan, tracks like the buoyant ELO-styled "Nun", loping bass lined "Park Slopey" and the brilliant polished diamond of new single "Green Grass" (10CC have nothing on this guy) make Sun Comes Up Again an irresistibly catchy listen of the first order. Stay tuned for word on a U.S. release. Highly recommended.
