Brian Wilson - Reimagines Gershwin

Described as "one of the few undisputed geniuses in popular music" by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Beach Boys founder and creative mastermind Brian Wilson pays tribute to legendary songwriting duo George and Ira Gershwin with the ambitious new project: Reimagines Gershwin arriving August 17 via Disney/Pearl. Produced by Wilson and engineered by Al Schmitt (Steely Dan, Diana Krall), Reimagines -- true to its title -- takes classic Gershwin songs such as "Summertime", "S'Wonderful" and "I've Got A Crush on You" and reworks them with Wilson's trademark Beach Boys sound: impeccably arranged, multi-level vocal harmonies and lush pop arrangements.

"Along with Irving Berlin, Gershwin basically invented the popular song, but he did something more", says Wilson. "He had a gift for melody that nobody has ever equaled, yet his music is timeless and always accessible. This is the most spiritual project I've ever worked on." Of particular note on the album are two songs -- "The Like I Love In You" and "Nothing But Love" -- where Wilson fleshed out unreleased songs with lyrics and, in the latter, additional melodic structure. There's also a stunning a capella version of "Rhapsody In Blue" that opens and closes the album with magnificent harmonies that only Wilson and his virtuoso studio band could pull off. Recommended.
