Calling it a "record for the world", jazz icon and musical pioneer Herbie Hancock tackles his most ambitious project yet with The Imagine Project, a genre-blurring album and companion documentary film dedicated to "the universal language of music" and featuring collaborations with numerous international music notables. Arriving June 22 -- and around the time of his 70th birthday -- Hancock's bold melding of world music features a dazzling potpourri of styles and utilizes the talents of producer Larry Klein, his studio partner on River: The Joni Letters, his 2008 Grammy-winning tribute to Joni Mitchell. Hancock says his goal is "uniting a myriad of cultures through song and positive creative expression."
Among the album's highlights: "Don't Give Up", the Peter Gabriel-penned classic featuring a duet with Jeff Beck and vocals from Seal and Pink; “Times They Are A Changin’” with The Chieftains, Lionel Loueke and Lisa Hannigan recorded in Ireland; “Jackpot” featuring Dave Matthews and Marcus Miller; "Space Captain" with husband and wife blues/rockers Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks; “The Song Goes On” with Anoushka Shankar (sitarist daughter of Ravi Shankar), Chaka Khan and Wayne Shorter which was recorded in Mumbai, India, along with a stellar group of Indian musicians. Also on board are Latin music superstar Juanes, Brazilian modern bossa-nova songstress CeU and sensational Saharan masters Tinariwen, each adding their own unique styles to Hancock's expansive world view. Details and music to come...stay tuned.
