James Taylor and Carole King - Troubador Reunion

Yes, we understand the commerce at stake here. We get that no one is exactly breaking a creative sweat. But we also are having a tough time being too cynical about the reunion of James Taylor and Carole King on their worldwide Troubador concert trek. They are after all, iconic songwriting figures (hello 25 million-selling Tapestry, hello classic Sweet Baby James) -- and they did, after all, make some magic when they first toured together four decades ago. "When we reunited for the Troubadour's 50th Anniversary celebration, it felt like yesterday," reflects Taylor on their 2007 show. "It was and still is all about the music and the songs that we get to perform together."

Just as we look forward to the Troubador Reunion album, due May 4 via Concord/Hear Music, we will also wager that a PBS special just might be coming our way this fall as well (and the inevitable concert DVD). And why not? Backed by Danny Kortchmar, Lee Sklar, and Russ Kunkel, the original "Session" band from the early Troubadour shows, Taylor and King roll out classic after classic -- and they still sound great. So we'll keep our irony in check and just enjoy watching two fine tunesmiths ply their crafts. For a flashback, check out a King/Taylor BBC video performance from 1971 of "So Far Away" after the jump...!
