Jonquil- One Hundred Suns - November 16 - Dovecote - Oxford, U.K. band has been trimmed to a core three-some but the music still promises a freewheeling approach to their angular but melodic indie pop (described by one scribe as "Paul Simon's take on The Smiths). On this their third effort and first for stateside release is a "mini-LP" of eight appealingly akilter folk pop songs reimagined as jittery swoons and hummable tunes. "Fighting Smiles" leads the parade, a delightful jumble of scattered snare drums, catchy synth lines and words that tumble and careen with gleeful, reckless abandon all the while soaring to angelic falsetto heights.
