Johnny Flynn - Been Listening

Been Listening, arriving stateside October 26, is the second full-length from critically revered London-based singer/songwriter Johnny Flynn and prime for inclusion in the Laura Marling/Mumford and Sons British folk revival tent. At turns meditative and bristling, gritty and delicate, Flynn's rootsy acoustic leanings have a timeless feel, songs that combine masterful bard-ly storytelling and wordplay with pub-ready acoustic jangle. Like his compatriots, Flynn's flair for neo-traditionalist songs have an earthiness akin to modern Americana.
The world weary tone at the core of new single "The Water", a lovely waltzing duet with Ms. Marling, yields to the brassy upbeat "Kentucky Pill", a song that nimbly spans stately Richard Thompson-ish U.K. folk/rock and front porch Appalachian mandolin picking. "Wonderfully assured...His skill is to combine emotional sincerity with theatrical suspense, without ever sacrificing credibility." -- The Sunday Times
